IRAN: Iran Pistachio Production on Increase
June export shipments are about 10,000 MT of pistachios, 2.5 times more than crop year 2017 (the last on-year crop with the same starting inventory) for the same month. Increasing controls on the pesticide residue in health-conscious markets, has created a great amount of awareness among Iranian pistachio farmers. IRAN: Raisin Exports at $164m in Fiscal 2019-20
A total of 120,000 tons of different types of raisins worth $164 million were exported from Iran in the last fiscal year (March 2019-20), registering a 6% increase compared with the year before. According to Darab Hassani, an official with Agriculture Ministry, Iran has around 308,000 hectares of vineyards (289,000 hectares of which are productive) with an annual output of 3 million tons of grapes, out of which some 200,000 tons of raisins are produced. The official expects exports to increase to 150,000 tons this year. The main grape producing provinces in Iran are Fars, Qazvin, Hamedan, Khorasan Razavi, East Azarbaijan, West Azarbaijan, Zanjan and Markazi in a descending order. IRAN: Iran’s Date Exports at $211m in Fiscal 2019-20
A total of 238,152 tons of dates worth $211.64 million were exported from Iran in the last Iranian year (March 2019-20), according to the spokesman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration. “Iran exported dates to 85 countries during the period. Pakistan, Kazakhstan, the UAE, Turkey, Afghanistan, Malaysia, Bangladesh, India, Denmark, Ukraine and Iraq were the main destinations,” Rouhollah Latifi was quoted as saying by ILNA. According to Zahra Jalili-Moqaddam, an Agriculture Ministry official, Iran is the world’s second biggest producer of dates with a yearly production of around 1.2 million tons that accounts for 10% of the global total output. Iran: Iranian fig export stands at $47 mln in a year
Iran exported 13,600 tons of figs, valued at $47 million during the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 19), according to the director-general of the tropical and subtropical fruits office of Agriculture Ministry. Zahra Jalili-Moqadam also put the annual fig production at 104,000 tons. Fars province is the major producer of dried fig in Iran and therefore the main supplier of exported fig in the country. She went on to say that planning for increasing the quality of the fruit based on the international standards will result in boosting its exports, and noted that improving the fig gardens is one of the plans of Agriculture Ministry in the current year, which is the year of “Surge in Production”. IRAN: Iran accounting for 90% of world’s saffron output
Some 115,000 hectares of land are under saffron cultivation in Iran, while the world’s total saffron farmlands stand at 122,000 hectares. The official noted that the production of the priceless plant is observing a rapid growth, and some 5,000 hectares of land are added to saffron farms every year. According to Hossein Zeinali, the medicinal plants’ project manager of Iran’s Agriculture Ministry, Iranian farmers are expected to produce a total of 430 tons of saffron in the current fiscal year (March 2019-2020). Iran produced 404 tons of saffron during the year to March 20, of which 280 tons were exported. The priceless spice was sent to more than 40 countries. Spain, Vietnam, Qatar and the UAE were Iran’s biggest saffron importers during the period, he added. (Quoted from Mehrnews 1-06-2020)
